Growing In Unity Day 1

Hello Unies! Welcome to my first ever GIU week! The focus of my week is to spotlight some of the fantastic Unity blog posts on the first four days and on day five I will feature my favorite card layout cased from the Unity website. I will not be giving a lot of details about how to make the cards this week since I am linking to the original Unity blog post for more information.

For my first day, I decided to highlight no color stamping with matching paper by Gaylynn. I love her card and wanted to try it out. For both cards, I used kraft cardstock for the base and embossed layer, versamark ink, white embossing powder, embossing buddy, white string, heat tool, foam tape, images from the Stand Tall KOM 7/18 and the stitched scallop basic edges die-namics from MFT.

I knew I had this lemon paper in my stash and wanted to pair it with the lemon stamp in the kom. I love how this turned out, so bright and cheerful! The sentiment is from hugs, kisses & birthday wishes.

I originally started the second set of cards with a floral stamp, but did not like how it turned out. I put my thinking cap on and finally decided on this image from the same kom. I thought it would look neat as a half circle on the front. The sentiment is from Happy Moments.

The hardest thing about making these cards was remembering to use my embossing buddy. I had to pitch quite a few of my attempts because I had white embossing powder in places I did not want it. One of the things I loved about Gaylynn's card was how she knotted the string instead of tying a bow. I have never done a string accent like this before and I must say, I really like it.

Well, that's all for now and I hope you enjoyed day one of my GIU week!

  2. I love kraft paper cards (I am working on one right now.) You forget to use the embossing buddy and I forget to use embossing powder, I can't tell you how many times I have stamps and heat set, wondering why I didn't have to look I wanted and then realized that after stamping I forgot to add the embossing powder... Sadly, I am sure I will forget again.

  5. Your CAS cards are beautiful! I need to try this and use up all the patterned paper that keeps multiplying around here.
I used to forget the embossing buddy all the time too! Ding, ding, ding... an idea! I put it in a clear container taped (double sided tape) to the TOP of my most used embossing ink. I am visually reminded to use it when I go to use the ink.
Thank you for sharing your talents!

  10. I love how bright and cheerful your cards are. You're idea to showcase various cards from the blog and try them yourself is super neat! I love that those gave you inspiration to do your own cards. The die cut you used is great, I may look into getting that.

  11. Always a fan of white embossing on kraft (or black!). And I'm with you on the embossing buddy - I tend to forget to use it, too. lol I also like to use knots instead of bows (since the bows have a mind of their own too often!!) when I can. Your cards are all lovely, tfs!
